Doppstadt

Doppstadt is, by most measures, the single most important name in waste recycling machinery in Europe. The company was founded in 1965 by the Doppstadt family in Velbert, a small industrial city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It began life making agricultural equipment — a common enough origin story for German Mittelstand firms. But by the 1980s, it had pivoted decisively toward environmental technology and waste processing, a bet that would define the next four decades.

Today, Doppstadt operates as a family-held group under the second-generation leadership of Ferdinand Doppstadt. The group maintains four centres of expertise across Germany: Velbert (prototype development, production, and sales), Wülfrath (service), Calbe in Saxony-Anhalt (series production), and Wilsdruff near Dresden (wet material separation). It employs approximately 700 people, operates a dealer network spanning more than 40 countries, and generates estimated annual revenues of around €100 million — though the precise figure is not publicly disclosed, as is typical of German family-held industrial groups. The US operation, Doppstadt US LLC, trades through Ecoverse Industries from Avon, Ohio.

Doppstadt’s position in the market is built on breadth. No other manufacturer in the recycling equipment space offers a comparably wide range of mobile and stationary machines covering shredding, grinding, screening, chipping, separation, mixing, composting, and transport. The company’s motto — “Best Solution. Smart Recycling.” — is less a marketing line than a statement of strategic intent: Doppstadt sells complete processing systems, not standalone machines.

Product Range — Complete Model Directory

DW Series — Slow Speed Shredders (Single Shaft)

The DW series is the backbone of Doppstadt’s product line and arguably the most widely deployed slow speed shredder range in Europe. Operating on a single-shaft roller and comb principle, these machines process waste wood, green waste, biomass, bulky waste, MSW, and mixed construction material. The hydraulically controlled comb opens automatically to eject unshreddable contaminants, protecting the machine and reducing downtime. All models feature a 100% mechanical drive system for maximum fuel efficiency.

Models include: DW 2060 (compact, hooklift or tracked), DW 2060 K Bio Power (tracked, enhanced spec for biomass), DW 2560 (mid-range, hooklift), DW 3060 (the flagship — available in multiple chassis configurations), DW 3060 K (tracked), DW 3060 SA (semi-trailer), DW 3060 Type F Bio Power (high-spec biomass variant with 360 kW engine), and DW 3080 K (the largest, 45-tonne tracked unit with 450 kW engine and 800 mm diameter roller). Stationary electric versions include the DW 2060 E, DW 2560 E1, DW 3060 E, DW 3080 E2, and DW 4060 E1.

The DW 3060 in particular has become the default choice for UK composting operations and waste transfer stations. Blue Group, the UK dealer, has sold and serviced hundreds of units over the past two decades.

Inventhor Series — Next-Generation Slow Speed Shredders

The Inventhor range represents Doppstadt’s modernisation of the DW concept. The Inventhor Type 9 was introduced as a flagship innovation, featuring the patented VarioDirect Drive — a continuously variable power transmission that keeps the engine running at its optimum operating point regardless of load. The Inventhor 6.2, launched more recently, is positioned as the direct successor to the DW 3060, combining the proven shredding principles of the DW series with the new drive technology, modular design, and improved accessibility of the Inventhor platform. Available with trailer, semi-trailer, or tracked chassis.

Methor — Mobile Modular Multitool

The Methor is a newer concept: a flexible, single-shaft shredder designed as a carrier platform for Doppstadt’s mobile-modular processing concept (MMPC). It can be combined with additional processing attachments — screens, separators, conveyors — to create compact treatment systems. Positioned for operators with smaller volume flows or specialist fractions.

AK Series — High Speed Grinders

The AK series is Doppstadt’s range of high-speed flail drum grinders, used as secondary shredders for producing finished product — biomass fuel, compost, mulch, RDF/SRF. The patented Dopp-Lock flail fastening system enables rapid tool changes without welding. Models include: AK 230 Profi (compact, 15-tonne class), AK 315 (mid-range), AK 430 / AK 430 K (the workhorse, available on hooklift or tracks, 315–428 HP), AK 510 / AK 510 K Bio Power (larger unit for high-throughput biomass), AK 530, AK 535, AK 560, AK 565 (Stage V compliant), AK 630, AK 635, and the AK 640 K (the current flagship grinder, featuring 3D rear basket technology for waste wood). Stationary versions include the AK 230 E, AK 430 E, and NZ 180 E.

DZ Series — Combined Shredder-Grinder

The DZ 750 combines pre-shredding and grinding in a single machine — a two-in-one concept. Available in tracked (DZ 750 K) and electric stationary (DZ 750 E) versions.

SM Series — Trommel Screens

Doppstadt’s trommel screens are used for screening compost, soil, bark, waste wood, and mixed waste. The patented load-sensing material feed optimises throughput. Models: SM 414 / SM 414 K (compact), SM 518 (mid-range, including the 518 Flex), SM 620 / SM 620 K / SM 620.3 (the current bestseller), SM 720 / SM 720 Profi (large-scale), and SM 1200 Triflex. Stationary versions include SM 518 A, SM 620 A, SM 1025 A, and SST (star screen trommel) models SST 518, SST 725, and SST 1025.

DH Series — Precision Chippers

Drum chippers for producing high-quality wood chips for biomass energy. Models: DH 608 (compact) and DH 910 (larger, available in tracked K and semi-trailer SA configurations).

Ancillary Equipment

DM 215 mixer (for homogenising compost and substrate), DSP 20-5 screw extruder (biopress for dewatering organic material), DU 320 windrow turner, Selector 800.2 (hooklift star screen used in combination with Inventhor), and various conveyor solutions.
